Violette Rain Prepares for Fall with Single, “Follow the Crows” [Premiere]
Singer-songwriter Violette Rain premieres her brand new single “Follow the Crows,” her new song for the month of October.
As a singer-songwriter, Violette Rain isn’t just like everyone else. Her songs are emotive, feeling more like poems or thematically appropriate short stories. For all of 2025, Violette has been releasing one song per month, and here we are with October’s entry, “Follow the Crows.”
It’s the follow-up to September’s “Pumpkin Pie” and will pave the way for November’s “Autumn Wind.” As you can tell, Violette’s songs are being released to coincide with the months and seasons. It’s a reflection of the way in which she writes songs. An avid reader of literature, myths, and poetry, she writes songs like they are spells. They have a soft, sorrowful, longing quality to them. “Follow the Crows” is both eerie and atmospheric. It’s the perfect Halloween track with its spooky, hymn-like, gothic characteristics.
Elaborating on the song, Violette Rain states:
“‘Follow the Crows’ came from my love of eerie autumn nights and stories that blur the line between fear and wonder. For me, it’s about finding beauty in darkness and embracing the mystery that lingers in the shadows.”
“Follow the Crows” was directly inspired by a dream that Violette had, which involved exploring a dark, misty cemetery. When visiting some cemeteries while in New Orleans, she found herself observing the crows as they sat there perched, silently being witnesses to funerals and visitors coming and going. In writing the song, she wanted to bring this concept to life, of a gothic graveyard with mist in the air and fog forming in the sky.
This song will be one of the more mysterious ones you’ll find on Violette’s upcoming debut album. Titled Charting the Stars in Her Eyes, the record will be released in December and will feature all of the songs she has been releasing by month this year. The sum of its parts, the album will form together to trace the emotional seasons of a year. Written like traditional murder ballads, it’s an interesting way of writing an album and a testament to the way Violette can compose songs to suit any season, feeling, or mood.
