Velvet Chains – “How The Story Ends” [Song Review]

Las Vegas-based hard rock outfit Velvet Chains releases their latest single, “How The Story Ends,” a song about the compulsion to find purpose amidst the surrounding chaos and instability.

Bassist Nils Goldschmidt explains, “‘How the Story Ends’ is about searching for meaning in a world that has become uncertain and broken. It’s a reflection on loss, change, and the quiet yet brutal act of gathering what’s left of your life. It remains the most hauntingly raw and emotionally charged song we’ve ever written.”

Velvet Chains is made up of: Chaz Terra (lead vocals), Jason Hope (drums), Von Boldt (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Nils Goldschmidt (bass and backing vocals), and Philip Paulsen (lead guitar and backing vocals).

“How The Story Ends” follows on the heels of the band’s single, “Sins,” and their recently released album, Last Rites. Velvet Chains’ sound blends elements of grunge, punk, and hard rock into music that conjures up suggestions of Guns N’ Roses.

“How The Story Ends” opens on enigmatic swirling tones that build, and the ramps up to potent guitars, heavy drums, and a pushing bassline. Raw vocals imbue the lyrics with the intense emotions of someone who has traveled through Dante’s Inferno and come out whole yet scarred and haunted.

On the chorus, vocal harmonies enclose the lead vocals in poignant auras, giving the lyrics a sense of moral, physical, and spiritual purification.

Dark and unflinching, “How The Story Ends” narrates carving out a meaning to life through sheer force of will.
