Powerwolf & DragonForce Deliver Spectacles of Dark Pageantry and Neon Whimsy to Edmonton [Photos]

Last week at the Edmonton Convention Centre, fans were treated to a power metal spectacle as DragonForce and Powerwolf joined forces for one of the most theatrical tours of the year. The evening opened with DragonForce, who wasted no time unleashing their signature lightning-speed riffs and virtuosic guitar duels, courtesy of Herman Li and Sam Totman. Their performance was as playful as it was intense, with the band leaning into over-the-top gaming-inspired visuals that turned the set into a high-energy adrenaline rush. The crowd met them head-on, fists pumping and voices raised, fully locked into the band’s turbo-charged momentum.
When Powerwolf took the stage, the atmosphere shifted into something darker and grander, like a heavy metal mass complete with gothic imagery, smoke, and cathedral-like window pane banners on either side of the stage. Being their first time in Edmonton, this was bound to be a special show for everyone in the room, band included. Frontman Attila Dorn commanded the room with soaring vocals and charismatic crowd work, encouraging fans to sing, chant, and participate in the theatrics. Tracks like “Incense & Iron” and “Armata Strigoi” roared through the hall, with the band balancing tight musicianship and dramatic staging to create an immersive experience.
The highlights came in the form of fan favourites “Demons Are a Girl’s Best Friend” and “We Drink Your Blood,” both of which had the audience belting every chorus as if part of the ritual themselves. Powerwolf’s gothic grandeur juxtaposed perfectly with DragonForce’s hyper-melodic firepower, making the night feel like two very different, yet complementary takes on what power metal can be. The contrast between DragonForce’s neon whimsy and Powerwolf’s dark pageantry kept the energy high from start to finish.
In the end, Edmonton witnessed an immersive show where metal met theatre. DragonForce delivered the flash and speed, while Powerwolf brought the ritual and drama, and together they crafted a night that felt larger than life. For Edmonton, it was a celebration of everything that makes power metal over-the-top, exhilarating, and unforgettable.
