Noam Lemish Premieres His Performance Video for “Song for Rona”

Jazz music can speak to you like no other musical genre, and like with Noam Lemish’s new composition “Song for Rona,” it often doesn’t even require words. Explaining the motivations behind “Song for Rona” and its deeper significance, Lemish states:

“I wrote this song for my niece Rona, not long after she was born in 2023. It’s actually the third in a set of three pieces I’ve written for my three nieces! In Hebrew, Rona means ‘joyful song’ and I believe the performance by the band really captures the spirit of happiness and lightheartedness that I was hoping to evoke.”

It has been one of the most rewarding and productive stretches of Noam Lemish’s recording career. Last year, he was nominated for a JUNO Award for “Best Jazz Album of the Year (Solo)” for his album Twelve. Carrying that momentum forward, Lemish returns with his new studio album, There’s beauty enough in being here.

Due for release on October 24th via TPR Records, the album was inspired by a Fernando Pessoa poem about experiencing and appreciating the spiritual nature of normal, everyday occurrences. Pessoa emphasizes the beauty in the moment that should be appreciated above the pursuit of finding it in other places.

In many ways, this idea describes how Lemish has conducted his composing and recording career. For this album, he sought out some of the most accomplished jazz artists in his local Toronto. He relied on the talent around him, rather than pursuing it in far-off places. It’s a system he has adhered to now for 25 years, expanding the scope of his musical exploration regardless of genre, people, or tradition.

As a jazz artist and composer, Lemish is always pursuing his next musical challenge. Since 2011, the Noam Lemish Quartet has been his primary vehicle for recording his original music. He has also contributed to a number of other ensembles and composed a wide range of large-scale works for jazz orchestra and jazz choir. Guided by skill, experience, and intuition, Lemish keeps outdoing himself with each new artistic challenge.
