Celebrated musician and songwriter Matt Andersen has announced the Canadian leg of his “The Hammer & The Rose Tour,” set to kick off in Glace Bay, NS, on January 24th. Andersen and his band will play 25 dates across nine provinces, wrapping up in Victoria, BC, on March 2nd. Calgary alt-folk singer-songwriter Mariel Buckley will be the special guest on all dates. Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 3rd.

Andersen is touring in support of his acclaimed eleventh studio album, The Hammer & The Rose, released earlier this year via Sonic Records, prompting Rolling Stone to write, “Some of the best Americana music is being made by a burly Canadian songwriter.”

Known for his prolific songwriting, powerhouse vocals and riveting performances, Andersen’s latest offering may be the most intimate and nuanced album in his celebrated body of work.

The Hammer & The Rose takes a more stripped-down approach than its 2023 JUNO-nominated predecessor, The Big Bottle of Joy. Produced by percussionist Joshua Van Tassel and recorded live off the floor in Wolfville, NS, the album finds Andersen leaning into quiet, soulful performances that blend folk, blues and gospel. The album features Afie Jurvanen (acoustic guitar) and Christine Bougie (lap steel) from Bahamas, Aaron Comeau (keys), Kyle Cunjak (acoustic bass), with producer Van Tassel on percussion.

Matt Andersen brings a lifetime of music to every note he plays. Whether fronting a band or accompanied only by an acoustic guitar, his powerful vocals, combined with the charisma and command he exudes, are completely mesmerizing. He has spent decades cutting his teeth in dim-lit bars and grand theatres all over the world, delivering moving performances that run the gamut from intimate to wall-shaking.

His multi-faceted and poignant body of work has led him to amass over 33 million streams on Spotify and 30 million views on YouTube. In addition to headlining major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe, and Australia, he has shared the stage and toured with Marcus King, Beth Hart, Marty Stuart, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Serena Ryder, Tab Benoit, and more.
