Songs such as Like Ghosts’ “Better Now” prove that you don’t necessarily have to sound loud to be heavy as hell. The post-hardcore quartet released the single back in June, and today, they unveil the exclusive lyric video for this impassioned anthem. Seeing the lyrics and how they come at you in the video really helps emphasize the power of the song.

Lead singer Gage Rodriguez’s words carry a lot of weight, as he confronts the uncertainty, doubt, and anxiety of his emotions. The idea behind the song was to take a traumatic situation and emphasize those emotions within the actual music. It’s meant to be hard-hitting and relatable, taking you to a place in your mind where you’ve been before, and maybe uneasy to return to.

Discussing “Better Now,” Rodriguez tells us:

“‘Better Now’ is about that moment we’ve all had, fresh off a breakup, drunk at a bar with your friends, pretending you’re fine but thinking, ‘I should call them.’ It’s emotional, but it hits hard. I wanted to take that feeling and build something sonically massive around it. We blended the emotional honesty of emo and rock with the energy and dynamics of EDM—future bass synths, a big halftime drop, even a guitar solo.”

The release of “Better Now” in June coincided with Like Ghosts’ announcement that they were signing with the punk rock machine that is Manic Kat Records. Later on in the summer, they followed it up with the release of the more pop-punk-influenced “Wish You The Best.” Both songs showcase the Texas band’s ability to change up their sound. They are generally a post-hardcore band, but as each track illustrates, the band is able to navigate around to different influences within melodic alternative rock, pop-punk, and traditional punk.

Since the release of their debut EP To Feel Like You’re Drowning in 2017, the band has been defined by their grit and persistence. They have become a juggernaut of a live act, with a successful September tour right in their rearview mirror. Previously, they have toured with Sleeping With Sirens, Crown The Empire, and Rain City Drive. You can throw in a Vans Warped Tour appearance, as well. Like Ghosts is a band that specializes in high-octane energy, committed to keeping things as heavy as possible.
