Floodfall – “Last Horizon” [Song Review]
There’s an electric righteousness to “Last Horizon,” a track that carries listeners back to the heyday of heady guitar-driven rock.
Hailing from Bozeman, Montana, rock outfit Floodfall releases their latest single/music video, “Last Horizon,” a song about the feeling of power we experience when we are totally free of worry and anxiety.
According to Floodfall, “The original inspiration for ‘Last Horizon’ lies in the sunbaked highways running through the deserts of California. We had a vision of driving through the varied landscapes, alone but inspired and confident.”
Written by David Hearst, Zane Hearst, Jakob Herrmann, and Steve Rosenthal, “Last Horizon” was recorded with Jakob Herrmann at Top Floor Studios, located in Gothenburg, Sweden. Guest musicians on the track include Johan Niemann (bass) and Jonas Ekdahl (keyboards).
Made up of David Hearst (guitars, vocals) and Zane Hearst (drums), Floodfall’s sound merges the oomph of heavy rock with tinges of the aggression of metal.

“Last Horizon” rolls out on growling guitars riding walloping percussion. A heavy thumping bassline adds to the thick punch of the rhythm as tight, rasping vocals imbue the lyrics with primordial suggestions of invincibility and hints of nonchalant energy. A chugging melody infuses the tune with a thick, clotted, grinding flow that harks back to Ronnie James Dio.
