Oranje Space – “Shiny Penny” [Song Review]

Los Angeles-based indie-pop artist Oranje Space, aka Ricky Garcia, unveils his brand-new single, “Shiny Penny,” produced by Oranje Space and Nico Fabito.

Originally from Imperial Valley, California, Oranje Space released his single “Lucy” in 2023, followed by his debut EP, Ebb and Flow, last year. The release of “Shiny Penny” offers a tasty appetizer for his upcoming EP, Violeta.

Garcia lives with a stutter. Talking about his speech disorder, he says, “Having a stutter has helped me find my voice as an artist. I learned that when I sing, my stutter goes away.” He borrowed the name Oranje Space from an old song he had written.

According to Garcia, “The name is a metaphor for preserving your inner self in a world of chaos and commotion.”

Enveloped in misty, shimmering colors, “Shiny Penny” drifts on a dreamy, creamy melody that takes on gliding momentum atop a crisp, staccato beat, skipping and crunchy. Glowing, echoing harmonies silhouette Oranje Space’s intimate-flavored vocals, low and a bit breathy, imbuing the lyrics with yummy quixotic aromas and an expectant aura.

An affecting song, at once warm and stylish, “Shiny Penny” reaches out to listeners and touches the secret places of the heart.
