Lynyrd Skynyrd Celebrate 50 Years at OLG Stage in Niagara Falls, ON [Photos]
Continuing their 50th anniversary, Lynyrd Skynyrd brought their tour to OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls with Terra Lightfoot.
Continuing the 50-year celebration of the band, Lynyrd Skynyrd brought their anniversary tour to OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Giving Canadians a taste of the South.
Lynyrd Skynyrd brought along with them solo artist Terra Lightfoot, a Canadian folk artist from Hamilton, Ontario. Terra Lightfoot is no stranger to the Niagara region and had the place packed.
Terra Lightfoot delivered a solo set, using three different guitars. Two electric and one acoustic. By using her bold vocals and amazing guitar tone, she filled the venue with the beautiful sound of folk music.
As the OLG Stage continued to fill up, the video board lit up with a tribute to the history of Lynyrd Skynyrd, with a narrator giving the crowd a history lesson on the band’s roots. After that, the band kicked into “Workin’ for MCA,” a song off their sophomore album Second Helping.
From the start to the end, Lynyrd Skynyrd brought the guitar solos. Utilizing all three of their guitarists for different songs. You could see Mark Matejka, Rickey Medlocke, or Damon Johnson taking the spotlight to play the most famous southern rock guitar solos ever created.
Lynyrd Skynyrd never forgets their roots and makes sure they mention the original band members throughout the show. This includes a tribute to Gary Rossington during “Tuesday’s Gone.” The last remaining founding member until his unfortunate death in 2023, which shook the music world.
The video board played an emotional video, highlighting Gary’s life from the beginning of Lynyrd Skynyrd to the end of his time with the band. From photos of him performing, to photos of him with fans. Lead singer Johnny Van Zant was constantly pointing at the screen and reminding us of his brother.
Speaking of Johnny Van Zant, he turned OLG Stage into a karaoke bar. During “Simple Man,” he made sure everyone in the crowd was singing along to the chorus. He continues to carry on the legacy that his brother created and has the time of his life doing it.
After a cover of “Call Me the Breeze” by J.J. Cale, Van Zant got the crowd loud. Reminding the crowd that Lynyrd Skynyrd was in the house, little did fans know he was getting the crowd ready for “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.” Some of the band’s most famous works are household tracks worldwide.
Say what you want about the Lynyrd Skynyrd reunions. These musicians do exactly what they need to do to continue the legacy of the band. They give tributes to the fallen band members and treat every show like a celebration of the tracks that have stood the test of time. Can’t beat a good show full of guitar solos, and Lynyrd Skynyrd does just that.
