Brian McLean (Acclaimed Music & Sports Photo Journalist) Releases Book of Memoirs

Texas-based editorial photographer Brian McLean has released a book of his memoirs, taking you on a journey of a young teen discovering what he wanted to do with his life and how he (acted on that early awareness) to not only reach the early goals he set for himself but surpass several of them, as well.

Photography, Friends, Fate and Fun takes you on a multitude of different rides, from being captivated by Elvis in ’Aloha from Hawaii at just seven years old to an early obsession with KISS, which, in turn, led to a lifelong obsession with hard rock and heavy metal.

McLane reflects:

“I was craving the rock concert experience in middle school. The who, what, where, when, and why details of concerts became extremely important to me in those formative years. It wasn’t until the summer of my sophomore year that I attended my first rock concert.”

A heavy concert attendance habit gave rise to a photography career, shooting for various print magazines and websites over the past quarter of a century plus.

Rivalling Brian’s love of music is a prevailing passion for sports, and early stints playing baseball would lead Brian to first being a staff photographer for a regional and later, freelance photographer covering national hockey teams. This, in turn, resulted in public relations internships for the Fort Worth Fire minor league hockey team and the Dallas Stars, where the reader is treated to stories of Brian and the responsibilities that came with his new chosen career path.

Within the 405 pages of Photography, Friends, Fate and Fun you learn about Brian McLean’s life, figuratively, through the lens of the man himself, as he regales you with stories as varied as “accidentally” shooting the members of upcoming local Dallas band called Pantera in the audience at a KISS concert in 1985, interactions with Krokus’ Marc Storace, Steven Tyler, and an odd locker room encounter with Wayne Gretzky, trials and tribulations with school – both attending and teaching – and the excitement of growing up in an active city while music, technology and photography equipment changed on seemingly a moment’s notice.
