Texas Bring Glaswegian Banter and Big Rock Anthems to The Piece Hall [Photos]

One thing you’re guaranteed when Glaswegian rockers Texas arrive in town and that’s a bloody entertaining night out. It’s Friday night in Halifax, and with a night of Glaswegian rock anthems coupled with vocalist Sharleen Spiteri’s entertaining banter, there could not have been a better way to fire up the weekend.

And here in Halifax, Sharleen was on top form. Apologising for swearing early on, Spiteri took time out to confer with the front rows on the name of a local Yorkshire delicacy before recalling a recent encounter with four lads in a hotel lift in York, where they laughed ‘Don’t worry, we don’t bite…’ to which the vocalist replied, ‘I’m from Glasgow… I fuckin’ might!’

Aside from the entertaining banter, after nearly four decades in the business, the Glaswegian band know how to put on an entertaining rock show. Opening with their debut single “I Don’t Want a Lover” and into their 1997 crowd-pleaser “Halo”, Texas had this sold-out Piece Hall rocking from the off. Now, maintaining that energy level can be something of a challenge to some bands, but not Texas, who know exactly how to keep a crowd with them.

Not that it takes much effort, as between the banter and a career-spanning set that covers all bases, Texas has made a career of getting crowds like this one eating out of the palms of their hands. Big-hitting favourites like “In Our Lifetime” and “Let’s Work It Out” turn this Friday night in Yorkshire into one big Glaswegian party, which, if it weren’t for curfews and licensing laws, would have gone on all night had tonight’s headliners had their way.
