rouri404 Reps His Roots on His Latest Single “miss it” [Premiere]
Electronic artist rouri404 premieres his brand new single “miss it” via Red Bull Records, an energetic representation of his hyperpop roots.
Among the great things about music is that it can be anything you want it to be, and for rouri404, music has represented a lifeline to him. Today, he debuts his brand new single, “miss it” via Red Bull Records, his first taste of new music in over a year. Despite the long gap in between releases, it’s not like he’s been spending that year resting on his laurels, not refining his skills and techniques.
“miss it” represents a new direction for the Los Angeles emo-electronic artist. The song is both energetic and representative of his hyperpop roots. By the time you read this, rouri404 will have actually performed the song for the first time. Last night, he debuted the song live at LA’s iconic El Cid club.
Commenting on his new track, rouri404 offers:
“‘miss it’ feels like the first step towards a bigger idea/project as rouri404. Whether that ends up as an EP, album, or just a more cohesive overarching sound, I don’t know yet. But it feels great finally coming to this point.”
While he is building a lot of creative momentum now, it hasn’t always been easy for rouri404. Born Joseph (Joey) Cash in Orlando, Florida, he has had his fair share of personal struggles. A high school dropout at 16, Cash also battled substance abuse and a heavy dose of self-doubt. It wasn’t until around 2021 that he realized he had to fully invest himself in his passion if he was going to make anything of his life. He had already been using platforms like Logic and SoundCloud to share his musical creations. But it wasn’t until 2021 that he took on the name rouri404 and evolved his sound beyond the hyperpop he was writing.
In 2022, he released the GORE EP, more of a guitar-driven rock and emo record. It showcased his skills as a lyricist, producer, and arranger. In the time since then, Cash’s musical talents and interests have broadened, which you can recognize on “miss it.” While there is no grand message to his music, he tries to remain true to his roots and represent people like himself who maybe don’t naturally fit into traditional societal roles. Everyone has their own worth and value, and rouri404 strives to inspire you to discover yours.
