Honolulu Blue Hits: 6 Songs Soundtracking the Detroit Lions’ Rise
Detroit has always been a music city. Now, as the Detroit Lions shed their underdog status and enter a new era of national relevance, the city’s musical pulse is pouring into Ford Field and beyond, with artists creating original songs that encapsulate the rise of the team’s new divisional reign.
Over the last few years, a wave of homegrown Lions-themed songs has emerged. From viral hits and team tributes to stadium fight songs reborn, here are six recent gameday playlist essentials from the past few seasons:
1. “Run the North” – Gmac Cash
“We run the North, this is our division.”
Detroit rapper Gmac Cash is no stranger to Lions hype songs. The local-favorite dropped “Run the North” ahead of the 2025 season, and it’s a confident, trash-talking anthem celebrating the Lions’ dominance in the NFC North. With references to team stars and division rivals via Gmac’s signature word play, it’s the perfect blend of swagger and hype.
2. “Jared Goff (Detroit Lions Hype Song)” – Andrew P. Oliver
“Jared Goff! Jared Goff!”
Michigan native Andrew P. Oliver dropped this high-energy, chant-driven track after the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. Inspired by the now-famous “Jared Goff!” chant echoing across the fanbase, the track fuses actual chant samples over an explosive beat. It’s part of Oliver’s larger Lions Victory project—a full suite of Lions gameday anthems.
3. “It Takes More” – P.L.
“It takes more to wear that blue.”
Released during the Lions’ 2024 season, P.L.’s newest anthem captures the team’s identity under Coach Dan Campbell. With cinematic NFL Films-style energy, hard-hitting percussion, and stadium-style vocals, it feels tailor-made for tunnel walks and kickoff intros.
4. “Lions” – Ryn Scott
“Time to make history.”
Grand Rapids–born artist Ryn Scott entered the Lions music conversation with this heartfelt track timed to the start of the 2024 season. Highlighting players like Aidan Hutchinson, Jared Goff, and Jahmyr Gibbs, while tipping a cap to legends like Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, it’s a song of pride, perseverance, and local loyalty. Originally, covered by Local Spins, the track reflects the perspective of a fan who grew up with the highs and lows of Detroit football fandom.
5. “Motor City Dan Campbell” – Andrew P. Oliver
“We’re all in.”
Another from Oliver’s Lions Victory EP, this track is an adrenaline-pumped tribute to the Lions’ fiery head coach. It taps into the “kneecap biting” mythology while showcasing Campbell’s inspirational style of leadership with a mix of swagger and sincerity. For fans who see Campbell as more than just a coach, this is their soundtrack.
6. “Gridiron Heroes” – Theo “Gridiron” Spight
The Lions’ official fight song—roaring again.
Theo Spight’s booming voice has become synonymous with Lions home victories. He performs this anthem live at Ford Field after every Lions touchdown, leading crowds in a chorus of celebration. It wasn’t until just recently that he released his studio version on Spotify for fans outside of Ford Field to enjoy.
