YUNGBLUD brought his Idols – Up Close and Personal tour to a close at the Engine Rooms in Southampton with a performance that must have been a dream come true for many fans. It’s not often that you see your idol playing in such a small venue.

He opened the night with “Hello Heaven, Hello,” and sadly, it seemed as though he was experiencing sound issues, mentioning that he could not hear himself or the band properly. From the audience, however, it was hard to tell. His vocals came through clearly, the band sounded sharp, and the opening track landed well. It was a reminder of how confident and capable he is as a live performer, even when things are not going perfectly behind the scenes.

After that initial hiccup, everything seemed to settle. The rest of the set was smooth and well-paced. The venue’s smaller size allowed for a more intimate atmosphere, which suited the tone of the tour. YUNGBLUD made the most of it, frequently engaging with the audience between songs and even getting into the pit at one point, making a grand exit as he crowdsurfed back to the stage.

One of the highlights came midway through the set when he announced he would be performing “Zombie”. The crowd cheered immediately and raised phones, ready to capture the moment. It’s a song that resonates with many fans, as shown by the multiple homemade signs from fans all over the venue, telling their stories about why the song means so much to them. He ended the night with “Ghost”, which sparked a full-room sing-along and provided a fitting close to the set.

At the end of the set, YUNGBLUD let the crowd know he would be coming out to meet fans after the show. True to his word, he appeared not long after, taking time to pose for photos, sign albums and posters, and chat with those who had waited. It was a generous gesture that clearly meant a lot to the fans, many of whom had followed him throughout the tour.

Despite the early sound problems, the Southampton show was a strong and memorable end to the tour.
