Winona Fighter Brings the Storm (Literally) to DC9 with Their “Yes Chef Tour” [Photos]
Despite severe weather warnings and pouring rain outside, Winona Fighter, accompanied by Massie, brought the goods to DC9 in Washington, DC.
It was a thunderous night in more ways than one at DC9 in Washington, D.C., as Winona Fighter lit up the stage on July 9th, 2025, with their “Yes Chef Tour.” While rain poured outside—complete with tornado warnings—in classic summer storm fashion, inside the intimate venue, it was pure chaos—in the absolute best way.
The sold-out show had the energy of a college house party gone delightfully off the rails. An all-ages crowd packed the room wall-to-wall, dripping wet from the weather but completely unbothered as they danced, screamed, and moshed their way through the night. The vibe was electric from the first jump. Winona Fighter took the stage dancing to Cher, instantly setting a playful and fearless tone that carried through the entire set.
Hailing from Nashville, Winona Fighter hit the road for the tour in support of their debut album, My Apologies to the Chef. They’ve built a loyal following through unfiltered lyrics, raucous humour, and full-throttle performances that feel like a joyful riot. The three-piece band features Coco Kinnon (frontwoman and multi-instrumentalist), Dan Fuson (lead guitar), and Austin Luther (bass and producer).
Their DC9 set was a high-octane thrill ride from start to finish, with standouts like “You Look Like a Drunk Phoebe Bridgers,” “I Think You Should Leave,” and “R U Famous.” Each track hit with a shot of adrenaline—loud, raw, and joyfully unhinged. Kinnon and crew were in constant motion, kicking and spinning, all while the pit pulsed with sweaty unity.
Opening the night was the punk power pop group Massie, a D.C.-based local band that brought their own storm of energy. With tight instrumentation, fierce vocals, and a drummer who played like she was on fire, Massie had the crowd primed and fired up before Winona Fighter even hit the stage.
From tornadoes to crowd-surfing chaos, Winona Fighter’s DC stop was a perfect storm of punk energy, fearless fun, and unfiltered emotion.
