William Carn’s CHOICES Returns with New Recording ‘The Unburdening’

Acclaimed trombonist, composer, and sonic innovator William Carn announces the release of The Unburdening, the deeply personal and exploratory second album from his boundary-pushing CHOICES project. The album will be available worldwide on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Known for his ability to fuse rich digital textures with acoustic nuance, Carn has long been recognized as one of Canada’s most forward-thinking jazz voices. With The Unburdening, he dives further into introspective and emotional territory, crafting a suite of music that reflects on themes of loneliness, anxiety, peace, and rebirth. The nine-track album opens with the unsettled “No Peace” and culminates in the serene and healing “Peace Be,” offering listeners a narrative journey of struggle and resolution.

“The Unburdening is my attempt to sonically express the psychological and emotional weight we all carry—and the path to letting it go. I’m incredibly grateful to the artists who brought their voices to this project, helping me tell that story.”

Recorded entirely remotely, the album is a testament to national collaboration and features an all-star cast of Canadian musicians, including Brad Turner, Larnell Lewis, Tara Davidson, Lina Allemano, Luis Deniz, Selena Evangeline, and HiFiLo (aka Todd Pentney). Carn himself performs on keyboards, trombones, and voice.
