“C-C (You Set The Fire In Me) [Dave Glass Animals Remix]” (Stratasonic Records) is an exceptional articulation of how far a musical conception may go.
Twenty years ago, rebel and multi-instrumentalist Tom Vek released his debut album, We Have Sound, which became a cult classic. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, Vek will release We Have Sound Remixed on October 2.
Curated by Vek, the upcoming album features contributions from hand-picked artists, including alt-J’s Gus Unger-Hamilton, Everything Everything, Porij, Is Tropical, Anna Prior, Dutch Uncles, Baths, Vivid Fever Dreams, and Coby Sey.
Paving the way is “C-C (You Set The Fire In Me) [Dave Glass Animals Remix]” – Dave Bayley of Glass Animals’ reimagination of the 2005 album’s opening track.
Bayley shares, “That album was one of several responsible for us going on to make our own music.”
Talking about Bayley’s remix, Vek says, “When Dave sent it over, I almost couldn’t believe it because he’d given it a ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds’ era Timbaland vibe, which is an album I ferociously studied, trying to make the follow-up to ‘We Have Sound,’ determined to make something that sounded like ‘My Love but just couldn’t.”

“C-C (You Set The Fire In Me) [Dave Glass Animals Remix]” rolls out on emerging surfaces topped by remote vocals. A drifting bridge provides a momentary pause, followed by gleaming, stuttering synths riding over an industrial-trap rhythm. Wavering, echoing vocals imbue the tune with ricochet-like textures that evoke hints of incantatory savors.
When the melody shifts to the dreamy interlude, intertwining voices give the lyrics a floating, quixotic consequence, at once tender and luxurious.
