Mt. Joy, Courtney Barnett & Waxahatchee Headline a Beautiful Weekend at The Green River Festival [Photos]
Mt. Joy, Courtney Barnett, Futurebirds, and many others came together for a memorable weekend at The Green River Festival.
During one of the hottest weekends of the summer, the Green River Festival (official website here) in Greenfield, MA, celebrated its 39th year of bringing art and music to Massachusetts.
The festival kicked off on Day 1 with performances by 13 different artists and bands across four stages. This all culminated in a beautiful evening performance by Mt. Joy. The vibes were high, and everyone was enjoying themselves, going from stage to stage and checking out the very cool “Makers Market” where all different types of artists were selling their goods.
Day 2 of the festival felt extra hot and sticky, but that didn’t stop the crowd from showing up! With 21 different performances, this was the biggest day of the festival, and there was always something happening and going on. I especially enjoyed seeing Jeremie Albino and Reyna Tropical perform, two artists whom I was not very familiar with, but both were incredible and amazing to see live. Courtney Barnett closed out Day 2 with a rousing performance that had everyone in the crowd singing along with her!
Day 3 started off just as hot, but later cooled down a bit with afternoon clouds rolling in and providing some much-needed recess from the sun. Out of the 17 performances on Day 3, my favourites were definitely Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge, Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Futurebirds, and, of course, Waxahatchee, who was the final headliner for the festival. I especially enjoyed seeing Waxahatchee bring out MJ Lenderman, another Day 3 performer, to sing with her during her set.
Overall, the festival felt filled with happiness and joy! This was my first year attending, and I loved the family-friendly vibe, mixed with the hippy, outdoorsy atmosphere. I also loved the intimacy of this small fest and stages like the Dean’s Beans Stage, where audience members could be so close to the performers. Furthermore, having artists there selling their goods and services, along with a craft area, and kids’ section made the festival really stand out from other festivals I’ve been to. There were activities there for everyone of all ages and interests!
In conclusion, I really enjoyed my time at this festival and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves folk and indie music, and be sure to check out our photo gallery of the fest below!
