After several single releases, Sixth Wonder has finally arrived with the release of their debut EP Prologue. Properly released on July 2nd, it features five new tracks, including the first single “Thorn,” released in April. They are an alternative metal band from Scotland, carving out their own musical niche where “djent pop” collides with cinematic fantasy. Their sound features soaring melodies, intense riffs, and immersive storytelling. Since forming in 2021, Sixth Wonder has released several singles in the buildup to the release of Prologue. Now with the release of Prologue, it’s their time to establish themselves as one of the best young alternative metal acts in the world.

Sixth Wonder joins us today for a Track-by-Track rundown of Prologue, breaking each song down and how they are joined together.

The band adds some preface to their album, overall:

“Prologue is built from four main themes: realization, contemplation, antagonism, and finally, escapism. Prologue is our starter. A piece of our beginning, wrapped in a jagged bow and given onto the listener. Our survival of the gloom, and everything we wanted to share. The blend between each of the songs musically serves the purpose of the full story being realized.”

1. “Thorn”

“First, ‘Thorn.’ Our opening track, which starts our story, surrounds the realization that we were fighting a losing internal battle. ‘Thorn’ touches on the feeling of never being good enough and always fighting to prove your worth, siding with a force that is ultimately against you. The track ends with ‘Why don’t you put up a fight?’ in the lyrics, which sums up the confusion felt, alongside the betrayal of something you thought was behind you.”

2. “Ropeburn”

“This leads us to our second track, ‘Ropeburn.’ The track opens with a spoken word section, which was meant to be more of a poem to open the track, putting out our thoughts as we think them, before the insanity ensues. The back-and-forth nature of the vocals and instrumentation is to symbolize the whiplash-like nature of contemplating whether it would be better to leave or stay, and the guilt felt within keeping us in this animosity.”

3. “Guts”

“Then we move on to ‘Guts.’ ‘Guts’ is antagonism personified. A slap in the face to anyone who dares to wrong us. The song laughs at the ego of someone who believes they are above everything and defies everything they hold to their core. This song wishes for silence upon needless talk.”

4. “Feed The Hand”

“This brings us to our interlude, ‘Feed The Hand.’ A short track which ties the anger of the previous to the openness of what comes next. It is designed to create a beautiful unease, with the whispers of a busy mind echoing in the background.”

5. “Death Departed”

“Finally, we have ‘Death Departed.’ Our anti-love story and venomous goodbye to everything we once knew. ‘Death Departed’ speaks to the final part of this story, the escape from the dark and the bad. The release into trueness and the closing of this chapter of our career.”
