Remy Bond Reigned as the Greatest Showgirl at Dallas’ Cambridge Room [Film Forward]

Remy Bond’s style validates my commitment to using 35mm film. Film Forward is the momentum that analog images deliver for a fresh and retro POV on live music. I’m used to being the freak with the film, but I found the rare comfort of belonging at this show. Remy Bond and her band weaved a swinging sixties revival where I was right at home.

The visionary poet of future nostalgia was photographed for V13 with unique analog photos.

Remy Bond’s set began with her Hawaiian shirt-adorned band taking the stage and then a performance art piece by her dancers in vintage waitress uniforms. The audience erupted into cheers and applause. The spectators were also dressed to impress in floral prints, knee boots, and tropical hair accessories. When the songbird herself arrived on stage, she moved with a dreamlike glide that matched the way her music sounds. Remy Bond carried herself to the mic with the grace of someone who has had formal dance or etiquette training. Her voice began to swoon so smoothly that I might have been hearing her in my mind the whole time.

If the film Don’t Worry Darling were ever adapted as a Broadway musical, it would be as immersive as a Remy Bond concert. The experience transcended time as much as space with expert production, lighting and set pieces including a martini glass large enough for Remy Bond to perform inside of. This artist’s careful crafting of a mid-century modern experience was always sophisticated, not tacky. She’s a reminder that American culture was once timeless before the 21st century made it disposable.

Remy Bond’s “The Star Shaped Baby Tour” will take her from the USA’s west coast to a holiday across Europe. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the next time she brings her enchanting road show across the U.S. for another North American tour. I was assigned male at birth, but I’ve become a Bond Girl in my heart.
