Busted Show Why The Piece Hall in Halifax Was the Place to Be on Friday Night [Photos]

There is a girl in the front row who won’t have been born when pop-punk favourites Busted bounced and skipped their way into the hearts of the British pop-buying public back in 2000. Looking around this packed-out courtyard where Charlie Simpson and co were the latest of the top acts to grace the stage at The Piece Hall, she was clearly one of many of a new generation of Busted fans in attendance.

Whipping up the front rows with a banging soundtrack of Eminem and AC/DC, The Piece Hall was positively rocking when the quartet bounded onto the stage and into opener “Crashed The Wedding.” All smiles, Simpson, Bourne and Willis skidded about the stage, pointing at banners and young fans in the front rows who were singing along in the rain to noughties anthems like “Air Hostess” and “What I Go To School For” without a care in the world.

Those young fans were joined by mums, dads, big sisters and brothers in one big family party in Halifax. The band might be older and more experienced and, in the case of frontman Charlie, have gone on to do very different things musically, however, as was evident here in Halifax, something really magical happens when these four friends connect on a stage together.

The girl on the front row, rooted to her spot, proudly held a banner which said “My First Concert”. Early on in the set, Busted’s Matt Willis joked “Didn’t you lot want to be at Oasis tonight?” in reference to the opening night of the long-awaited Oasis reunion in Cardiff. A quick look at the girl and, the rest of the audience, and I can’t imagine the Gallagher brothers had crossed their minds once.
