William J. Sullivan Unveils “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors” (ft. Zilla Rocca) Music Video

Not just a one-trick pony, William J. Sullivan has many weapons in his arsenal. You hear it in his new single “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors,” a song that demonstrates his multidimensional approach to songwriting and production. The track combines live drums, lo-fi textures, and low-tuned noisy guitars together, along with a heavy beat. This was just the second song that Sullivan recorded for this project, and already his songwriting style was coming together nicely. “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors” also features a contribution from rapper Zilla Rocca. Together, Sullivan and Rocca make their own statement on the simmering tensions of adulthood, the associated disillusionment, and the almost hostile peace of normal suburban life.

With his thoughts on the new music video for “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors,” Sullivan states:

“I’m excited to share such an important song with everyone on V13 today. For almost a decade they’ve supported my independent ventures in the metal scene. It’s awesome to share another aspect of my work on this platform.

“When shooting the “Good Fences…” video, we originally planned for me to be on one side of the fence and Zilla to be on the other. We were going to film separately since we’re on opposite coasts. A rainstorm in Philly forced him to cancel his shoot. The editor Haidar and I had to think on our feet and put together the edit you see today. A couple of days later, ICE raided the Paramount CA Home Depot behind my house and landed a Black Hawk helicopter on our streets scooping up whoever was in the way…legal, illegal. Didn’t matter. This is like five minutes from where I sleep, eat, work…doing everything. It made the song and the video take on a whole new meaning.

“One of the best parts about media is that now we can see what’s happening all around the world in real time. It’s not like the ’60s in Vietnam or even ’80s Cold War coverage. Warcrimes are harder to cover up, injustices are harder to ignore and we see with our own eyes it’s not the citizens of Country A, B, or C forging a divide between everyone, but our corrupted leaders that screw us over for their own greed and selfishness.

“The world’s absurd. So is this video. I hope it helps someone out there escape the craziness for a little bit and enjoy some sarcastic hip hop by two assholes from Philly.”

“Good Fences Make Good Neighbors” comes from Sullivan’s brand new album Just Call Me Bill. The collaboration between him and Rocca has been a long time in the making. They crossed paths years ago within the Philadelphia music scene, where they both developed as artists. It’s highly satisfying to Sullivan to finally get this opportunity to work with one of his closest allies in the local scene.

Now based in Long Beach, California, Sullivan has continued to hone his distinctive hybrid sound. Hip-hop, electronic, heavy metal, experimental, it’s all within his grasp. It’s an exciting time for Sullivan as an artist as he gets to share his musical evolution with his audience on Just Call Me Bill.
