The Driver Era Bring the Heat on a Rainy Night in Boston [Photos]
Alternative pop duo The Driver Era heated things up on a rainy night at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, along with opener VALÉ.
On a chilly summer night in the Seaport neighbourhood of Boston, MA, The Driver Era heated things up with a stop on “The Obsession Tour.” Aptly named after their latest album, Obsession, which came out earlier this year. Fans at Leader Bank Pavilion were treated to an energizing opening act by Colombian artist VALÉ before Ross Lynch and Rocky Lynch hit the stage.
VALÉ, a rising Colombian pop star, took the stage Saturday night, opening with a mix of songs in both Spanish and English and accompanied by a full band. From the minute she came out, I loved her energy and the way she commanded the attention of the crowd. This was VALÉ’s second tour in a row opening for the Driver Era, and it was clear she knew how to perform and get the crowd excited. From dancing around the stage with the Colombian flag wrapped around herself, to teaching the crowd phrases in Spanish to sing back to her, she expertly blended cultures together, which made for a truly unique opening performance!
Then it was time for Ross and Rocky, the heartthrob brother duo, to take over. The two opened the show by performing their song “Touch” behind a white curtain held up over the stage. You could only see the shapes and shadows of them singing before bam! The sheet dropped, and there they were! To say the crowd went wild would be an understatement! Girls in pink cowboy hats and boots were screaming their hearts out and pushing against the barricade, just for a chance to be even closer to the band. The brothers ran with this energy, with Ross in particular dancing around the stage and getting the crowd into more of a frenzy.
The highlight of the show, however, came when the brothers broke from the setlist and sang two unexpected songs. Ross, a former Disney Channel star, is well known for having been the lead actor of the very successful Disney Channel movie and sequel entitled Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2. At one point in the show, a girl in the crowd held up a sign begging Ross to sing some songs from that movie, and to everyone’s shock and delight, he did! Ross started off by performing “On My Own” from Teen Beach 2 and then followed this up by performing “Cruisin for a Bruisin” from Teen Beach Movie. Everyone there was singing their hearts out, and it was a very fun moment to be a part of.
Overall, the concert was lively, playful and fun! The Driver Era performed 18 songs before coming out for a three-song encore, bringing the total to 21 songs and a performance that lasted a little under two hours. I left feeling nostalgic for my teen years and definitely interested in seeing them perform again someday!
