The Corrs and Natalie Imbruglia Mesmerise Fans at The Piece Hall in Halifax [Photos]

The magnificent open-air courtyard of The Piece Hall in Halifax welcomed Irish legends The Corrs as part of their ‘Summer Sunshine’ tour.

They had brought with them the fantastic Natalie Imbruglia, who besides being a massive crush for most of this audience from her acting days, is also a queen of alt rock, pop – and was a wonderful way to begin the show. It’s easy to forget how popular she was at the back end of the 90s – she had some massive tunes and sold millions of albums – and the crowd were in full voice as she ran through two of the biggest in “Torn” and “Big Mistake”.

With her signature warmth and charisma, a big smile and sweet personality she proved to be the perfect show starter and promised to come down into the crowd for a dance when The Corrs were on.

The Corrs arrived on stage individually each to adoring cheers from the audience, the biggest of which came for Andrea Corr as she took centre stage and set the tone for the night with a big smile on her face.

Her spritely demeanour and undisputable star presence make her the key focal point for the band as she dances around the stage as if she has not a care in the world, but the rest of the family, all fantastic in their own rights, also demand attention.

Catherine’s drumming is the bedrock of everything (and the metal looking Corrs logo on her drum skin looks cool). Brother Jim looks after guitars and keyboards, and Sharon adds lots of Irish flair with her violin – which when combined with Andrea flute really ups the Celtic vibe of the music, especially on some of the traditional Irish covers they included in their set.

With more hits than you probably remember their set was an emotive and surprising affair. “ Forgiven not Forgotten”, “What can I Do?”, “I Never Loved You Anyway”, “So Young” and “Runaway” are all highlights in a packed set and the fact they chucked a Phil Lynott cover in amongst everything instantly puts them in my good books – and their version of his classic ‘Old Town’ sounded great to boot. It wasn’t the only cover either as a version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” was given an outing too to a joyous reception from the crowd.

Their music sounded fantastic as it soared into the skies above the open-air courtyard and Andrea’s voice sounded huge. She is an intoxicating frontwoman, and her energy was infectious as she skipped around the stage leaving the crowd breathless – which was also the exceptional enCorre.

They are an absolute class act with a huge arsenal of massive songs; they’re not to missed if you get the chance – you’re pretty much guaranteed an incredible evening with The Corrs.
