Peter Salett Shares “Vision of the Sky” Single + Video

Singer-songwriter, composer, and performer Peter Salett—described by The New York Times as a “winsome pop poet” and hailed by TimeOut NY as a “downtown legend”—returns with his most immersive work to date: the long-awaited double album Suite for the Summer Rain / Dance of the Yellow Leaf, out July 11th.

First known nationally for his breakout song “Heart of Mine” in Edward Norton’s Keeping the Faith (2000), Salett became a fixture of New York City’s downtown music scene in the ’90s, with his music later featured in films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Down in the Valley. After leaving LA and returning to Brooklyn, Salett began writing Suite for the Summer Rain in 2011 and began crafting its companion piece, Dance of the Yellow Leaf, in 2014, a meditative collection of music and sounds.

Following tracks, “Waitin’ on a Rainstorm,” a lush and cinematic reflection on the subtle shift before a summer downpour and, “Suddenly the Leaves,” an enchanting contemplation on the changing of seasons, Salett continues his theme of poetic, visual storytelling through nature and introspection with, “Vision of the Sky,” arriving June 18th.

With its grand, dreamy atmosphere, “Vision of the Sky” evokes a sense of wonder and calm. Salett’s lyrical and vocal storytelling, paired with sweeping classical movement, creates a soundscape that is both deeply moving and soothing.

“All around us in Downtown Brooklyn, giant skyscrapers were appearing seemingly overnight. The top of a 65-story tower was left unfinished for a while, and when the wind blew through it, the most haunting, howling sound would float above the neighbourhood. I couldn’t help thinking of those unfinished spaces that would one day be well-lived in. I, of course, wanted the howling to end, but when the tower was finally fixed, I missed the sound.”
