Matt Andersen Announces Father’s Day Livestream Performance

To celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, June 15th, award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist Matt Andersen will perform during a special livestream on his YouTube channel beginning at 2 pm EST (3 pm AST). Andersen closes his recently released 11th studio album, The Hammer & The Rose, with the standout track “Always Be Your Son,” a heartfelt ode to his father.

Of the song, Matt states:

“Some of the best parts of me came from my dad. It felt right to put that into words.”

Fans joining the free stream on June 15th are encouraged to donate to Brigadoon Village, whose mission is to provide extraordinary kids with an amazing camp experience.

Known for his prolific songwriting, powerhouse vocals and riveting performances, The Hammer & The Rose may be the most intimate and nuanced album in Matt Andersen’s celebrated body of work. Andersen chose a different approach to the new recording, inspired by producer and percussionist Joshua Van Tassel, who emphasized how the timbre and texture of Andersen’s voice shone during the quieter moments of his live performance. Andersen began to write new songs with a stripped-down feel in mind. The result is a captivating and deeply soulful 10-song offering that blends elements of folk, blues and gospel delivered with a warm and relaxed vibe.

Recorded live off the floor in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Andersen enlisted an exceptional group of musicians/friends to capture his vision for The Hammer & The Rose. The album features Afie Jurvanen (acoustic guitar) and Christine Bougie (lap steel) from Bahamas, Aaron Comeau (keys), Kyle Cunjak (acoustic bass), with producer Van Tassel on percussion.
