Huston Sonhouse just dropped his first release of 2025, a full length album, Happy People. The new collection of songs represents a new era in his music and comprises what’s potentially his most personal work yet. The 10-song project trades the cowboy tales of his earlier albums for stories from his own life, but it still has that western feel. In Huston’s words, “With Happy People though, I finally took a moment to reflect on my own life.”

Happy People kicks off with “Cheyenne Wind,” an upbeat song about his dad and uncles raising hell in Wyoming. It’s got big acoustic energy and sets the scene for what’s to come.

In the middle of the album, things get heavier with “Fight the Good Fight,” where Sonhouse looks back on growing up in a strict religious home being raised as a Jehovah’s Witness.

“Gonna show you . . . how to fight the good fight.”

Other songs like “Vine Street Grove” dig into family history, telling the story of his great-grandfather coming back from war and “One of These Days” is about the promises people make to their kids—but never keep.

The album wraps with “Teardrops,” a mellow love song that feels like riding off into the sunset. It brings a little peace after all the pain.

Sonhouse wrote, played, and produced everything himself, creating a raw and honest sound that mixes rock, Americana, blues, and folk. Happy People may be about hard times, but it ends with hope—and a feeling that brighter days are ahead.

Listen to the new album Happy People, out now.
