GYRO Group, Australia’s leading digital music distribution and artist services company, today announces the appointment of Matthew Rogers as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Rogers joins GYRO Group following a distinguished 14-year tenure as Chief Operating Officer at UNIFIED Music Group, where he played a pivotal role in the company’s significant international growth.

In his new role, Rogers will be instrumental in managing and driving the growth of DistroDirect, GYRO Group’s hyper-local boutique distribution and catalogue management system. With teams across six continents, DistroDirect has a global reach with over 500 micro-distributors in over 40 markets, and Rogers will be instrumental in shaping the company’s upcoming product development, accelerated growth, and market expansion. He will be driving GYRO Group’s commercial and legal strategy, supporting the CEO on new label and artist product strategies, and continuing to advocate for artists and rights holders in our rapidly evolving industry.

CEO Andy Irvine comments:

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Mat to the GYRO Group family. His extensive experience in driving growth and his deep understanding of the independent music landscape will be invaluable as we embark on the next phase of development for DistroDirect and the wider group. Mat’s strategic insights, global networks and commercial acumen will be crucial in achieving our ambitious goals.”

During his time at UNIFIED, Rogers was a crucial leader in the company’s expansion from an Australia-based seven-person team to, at its peak, a one-hundred-person global operation with staff across Australia, Europe, and North America. His strategic guidance and operational leadership helped drive the international success of heavy music label UNFD and turned STL Tones into a major competitor in the audio plugins and music software space. Rogers was instrumental in UNIFIED’s early response to the 2022 “Raising Their Voices” report, helping implement industry-leading strategies focused on mental wellbeing, safety, and workplace culture, contributing to the betterment of the industry at large.

He served on the boards of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) for over seven years and spent four years on the board of the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN), including two years as Vice President on the board’s executive. Rogers’ deep understanding of the independent music ecosystem and passion to advocate for artists at a local, federal, and international level have resulted in him making significant contributions to the global music community.

The move marks a homecoming for Rogers, who returns to a Brisbane music business nearly 20 years after relocating interstate. CMO Vivienne Mellish says:

“GYRO Group is proudly headquartered in Queensland, creating global opportunities for independent artists, so we’re absolutely pumped to welcome Mat back to where it all started for him. His track record speaks for itself, and we are confident that his leadership will further strengthen our commercial strategies and market presence. We are thrilled to have his expertise on board.”

Rogers comments:

“I am thrilled to be joining the dynamic team at GYRO Group at such a pivotal time. Having witnessed the company’s impressive growth and commitment to the independent music community, I am eager to contribute my experience to further develop DistroDirect and support GYRO Group’s ambitious international expansion plans. Joining a Queensland-based company after many years interstate feels like a natural and exciting next step.”
