As an artist, you might describe Chuckie Brown as very purposeful. He puts his mind to what he does, and he sees various purposes in writing songs and making music. Today, he unveils the music video for his hip and happening new single “The Jones.”
The song is from his debut EP The Angels, which was released last month. The video clip is fun with a capital F, featuring a young grocery store employee going through a whole range of emotions while driving in his car, listening to the song. It’s interspersed with performance clips of Brown performing the song.
“The Jones” is indicative of the type of artist Brown strives to be. It features plenty of upbeat grooves with lyrics that are meant to stand for something. Brown wants you to take something away from his music, perhaps a good time coupled with a few thoughts he might have slotted into your head.
Discussing the song, Brown states:
“‘The Jones’ is a reflection on the quiet pressure to chase appearances—whether it’s money, status, or the ‘perfect life.’ It’s written as a reminder that constantly comparing ourselves to others can rob us of peace and purpose. It’s about choosing authenticity over illusion, which can be increasingly difficult to do nowadays.”
Brown has really been finding his way recently with a sound some have referred to as “West Coast Country.” Brown spent much of his youth as a hockey player, and it’s the lessons he learned playing that he has drawn on for his musical career. Hockey requires a lot of perseverance, self-assessment, and discipline. He views music and life as requiring that same focus. With that approach in mind, Brown comes across in a very authentic light, a young man just singing songs because he wants to, not because he’s trying to chase fame or fortune.
Brown wrote The Angels in a way where the interplay of life and dark intersect. He views people as being good in nature, but who deal with bad emotions and react differently to the negative things that happen to them. Life is about balance, and there is a middle ground that we all seek. The middle ground is somewhere in between that light and dark. Brown hopes that listeners will join in his journey, making sense of what comes of the triumphs and the struggles. He hopes that you may find some meaning in his perspective.
