Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Show Who’s Boss at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium [Photos]
Rock legends don’t come much bigger than Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, who delivered a superstar set at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium.
When it comes to rock legends, there are very few as iconic as New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen, who was back in the UK for the second part of his European tour, which had already seen him play multiple nights at sold-out venues across the UK in May.
Tonight, though, there felt like there was something special about seeing Springsteen in a place as equally iconic as Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium. Having already dueted with Liverpool icon Paul McCartney when the latter performed at Glastonbury, there was a strong rumour floating about that the Beatle would return the favour. Sadly, that wasn’t the case tonight, but for fans who attended his second show at the Stadium, they got that wish.
That being said, with no support, Springsteen was going to make sure that his fans left with having had their money’s worth. With Springsteen shirts as far as the eye could see, Bruce and his E Street Band delivered a one hundred and thirty-minute set that ticked every box. A Stars & Stripes flag hoisted up high above the stage, check. Passionate and politically charged speeches about the current U.S. Presidency, check. Audience interaction, check. Huge rock anthems. Check.
Interacting with the crowd, Springsteen and his band delivered a start-to-finish lesson in blue-collar, gritty rock with his biggest hits like “Born In The USA,” “Land of Hope and Dreams” this was a dream set list for fans of the man. Obviously, the icing on the cake would have been the appearance of McCartney but, on the opening night in Liverpool, Springsteen left these fans in no doubt who was ‘The Boss.’
