Neo-classical/jazz pianist Vera Bohl recently released her new single, “End of Reichenberger,” a track from her forthcoming long-player, Mudança, which will be released on June 24.

Bohl’s compositions reflect not only exquisite technique and lingering emotions but also hints of visceral, spontaneous improvisation.

Bohl shares, “Improvisation is the only way to express who you are in real-time. It doesn’t hide anything.

The title of the album – Mudança – is Portuguese and means “change.” Recorded in Berlin and Portugal, Mudança echoes Bohl’s nomadic movement through various cultural backdrops that influenced her style – balanced yet allowing room for the music to breathe, subside, and expand.

Originally from Düsseldorf, Bohl later studied composition and art in London, where she was awarded the prestigious CIR Prize for Music. A professor of jazz performance, Bohl previewed selections from Mudança at last year’s London Jazz Festival.

“End of Reichenberger” opens on a lustrous, pattering piano akin to falling rain. Shifting, swelling patterns of intensity heighten the assertion of the tune, infusing it with a formality that breaks down as emotional passion increases.

With “End of Reichenberger,” Vera Bohl explores realms of transience, transformation, and awareness with bravura panache.
