Vanderwolf – “Fuckwitt McGee” [Song Review]

There’s a dynamic retro-feel to “Fuckwitt McGee;” initially understated, the song takes off, channeling potent, alt-rock energy.

Originally from New York and now based in Los Angeles, Vanderwolf, aka Max Vanderwolf, releases his new single, “Fuckwitt McGee,” which is the fourth chapter in the six-part Vanderwollf Singles Club.

“Fuckwitt McGee” is a caricature of the comprehensive fall guy who bumbles through a world where, to quote Woody Allen, “nothing works and nobody cares” – he loses his keys, trips on a banana peel, and sets off cataclysmic, world-ending events through the butterfly effect.

As Vanderwolf shares, “If this is the norm, then what is madness?

Recorded in Camberwell, South London, musicians on the track include Chris Cordoba (guitar), Sam Sallon (keyboards), Will Muldrew (bass), and Chris Wyles (drums).

Highlighted by a Dominican merengue beat, “Fuckwitt McGee” opens on a low-slung, Latin-jazz melody topped by Vanderwolf’s rich, slightly raspy vocals that flow into gang-like harmonies. After a brief pause, the harmonics ramp up with growling guitars giving off vibrant textures. A kazoo solo imbues the tune with tight, buzzing surfaces.
