Derbyshire alt-rock outfit Shadows of a Silhouette return with a fierce new single, “No Matter Where I Go”, out today. Following the success of their debut tracks “Tempest” and “Outside the Fade”, the four-piece shift gears with a raw slice of garage-rock that showcases the band’s punchiest side to date.

Clocking in at just over two minutes, “No Matter Where I Go” is lean, direct, and unrelenting. Built around a jagged, minimalist riff and a propulsive rhythm section, it cuts through the noise with a sense of urgency that feels immediate and unfiltered. Stripped down to its core elements, the track reveals a band doubling down on their sonic identity with zero compromise.

Recorded at the iconic Motor Museum Studio in Liverpool – known for its work with Arctic Monkeys, and The Lathums, the track might have ended up on the cutting-room floor, if not for Carter’s persistence with the rest of the band finally relenting to his requests.

According to lead guitarist Reece Carter, the song was salvaged from an old voice memo recorded back in 2021:

“I found this 30-second audio of me and Nay [Nathan Brown] jamming the first verse – it was just sitting there. It never materialised into anything with the band at the time, but I just loved how raw and to the point the riff was and thought that the lyrics were class. I knew it was the perfect tune to go on the debut LP.”

Channelling the grit of their live performance and under the guidance of producer Al Groves, the single blends the no-frills drive of early 2000s garage rock with the lyrical ambition of modern indie.

“No Matter Where I Go” is a bold statement that sets the tone for what’s next… their debut album For Those That Know. On this evidence, expect the album to hit hard.

Catch Shadows of a Silhouette live at Rough Trade in Nottingham on 14th June 2025. Tickets available from here.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
