Pain and emotion are delicate pieces that should be handled with care, and Romi Peles is using the occasion of his new album to move his way forward attentively. Today, he debuts the lyric video for his latest single “Castle In The Sky.” It’s the newest track from his forthcoming record, Break Up Album, due for release on June 13th.

Commenting on “Castle In The Sky,” Peles tells us:

“This is maybe my favourite song on the album. For me, half of it is about the pain of losing my cousin, who passed away too young, and half of it is about the end of the world and losing myself. The most important line in this track for me is, ‘I would burn it all down for you.’ I’d give everything I have if I could see him again. I wrote this song in 2020 while going through a deep depression. It’s also about knowing there’s something waiting out there for you, and that you will make it through; ‘a castle in the sky, it’s been there all along…’”

As you will discover on this album, Peles is a fairly unique solo artist. Not just a “guy who plays guitar and sings,” he is a composer, classical guitarist, and record producer. A native of San Francisco, Peles now calls Tel Aviv, Israel, home. His musical identity is as distinctive as can be, bringing together classical music elements into a modern rock structure with some electronic influences.

He has been compared to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ brilliant guitarist John Frusciante, but not for his work with the Chili Peppers. Frusciante’s solo career has been notorious for its originality when it comes to its fusion of singer-songwriter rock, electronic experimentation, and classical music. This area between tradition and experimentation is where Peles’ music lies.

Break Up Album is a deeply personal reflection on the last half-decade or so in Peles’ life. Collectively, these songs have been accumulated over that same timespan. Intensely close to his heart, these songs reflect on the pain of a breakup with someone he loved. Mix that with the loss of some people close to Peles, including his cousin at a young age, and you have a very intimate album. Break Up Album also considers the emotional struggles of being an artist. There’s a great weight in creation and personal transformation that is often overlooked.

With an album this personal, it’s also very relatable because it deals with very real-world experiences and emotions. Showcasing his growth as a songwriter and a singer, you are invited to experience Peles’ most vulnerable and cathartic work yet.
