Plastic Rhino Run Down Their Top 10 Songs About Love & Obsession
With their single “TAKEITALL” covering the same territory, Plastic Rhino join us to count down their Top 10 songs about love and obsession.
Throughout their time together, Plastic Rhino has been defined by their fearlessness in songwriting. None of their songs sounds like each other because they aren’t afraid to dare to be different. They promote it, evidenced in the various sounds they explore and the subject matter of their songs. Their latest single “TAKEITALL” is based on a true story of love and obsession. Love can turn to obsession, which can then turn to anger and contempt. Other Plastic Rhino songs discuss betrayal, empowerment, freedom of speech, women’s rights, and more. With each passing release, Plastic Rhino invite you to a world of emotion, passion, and freedom.
Led by singer Atara Glazer and guitarist/producer Jack Glazer, the two formed Plastic Rhino in 2013. The band was formed based on a shared passion for modern hard rock music and an affection for each other. They seek out undiscovered territory and find a way to carve their path. The band also has a wicked sense of humour, as evidenced by the “TAKEITALL” music video. It depicts a 1980s jazzercise class, an idea that came about based on the BPM of the song. The band’s producer, Ron Geffen, realized that the song’s tempo matched perfectly with old jazzercise competitions from the 1980s.
With love and obsession so much the focus of “TAKEITALL,” Plastic Rhino shares their Top 10 songs about love and obsession.
Atara’s Selections:
1. Sleep Token – “Granite”
“The description of a messy car wreck as a toxic relationship, love that! Also love the pulsing beat behind it.”
2. Bad Omens – “The Death of Peace of Mind”
“Oooh, such sexy lyrics on that song: ‘The way you fuckk, the way you taste.’ Also, another great pulsing beat behind the song.”
3. Meg Myers – “Desire”
“This song introduced me to Meg Myers, and I love her! This song is so sexy and dark. Love it!”
4. Portishead – “Glory Box”
“What a classic! Those strings behind the bass line, those lyrics, the low to high singing (hmm, did some other band do that too? Wink).”
5. The Pretty Reckless – “Make Me Wanna Die”
“‘You make me wanna die, I’ll never be good enough.’ I feel like we have all felt this way in a bad relationship before. Great hard rock vibes on this one too!”
Jack’s Selections:
6. Slipknot – “Vermillion”
“Goes back and forth from calm to chaotic and expresses an array of emotions that go along with being enthralled by someone.”
7. Garbage – “#1 Crush”
“Dark and sexy tones open up with the mantra ‘I would die for you,’ letting you know the deal is up front.”
8. The Deftones – “Digital Bath”
“Has a dark turn with obsession when you realize what the song is actually about.”
9. Nine Inch Nails – “All the Love in the World”
“Demonstrates a hopeless frustration with someone who seems to get everything and not you.”
10. Pantera – “This Love”
“The cadence of the song starts by being entrancing, then goes into a sporadic, almost tantrum-type of chorus, which also demonstrates the feelings of being obsessed with someone and it not going your way.”
