Mercy Land Premiere Their Dreamy “Kid A” Music Video

Today, we are “unboxing” the debut music video of the debut single from music duo Mercy Land. The video is for the song “Kid A” from their upcoming debut EP Termites. The team of Laura Jinn and Tatum Gale have been slowly rolling out their debut release, with the single revealed at the end of April, the video being debuted today, and a visual narrative film that will accompany the entire EP.

Discussing the music video, singer Laura Jinn states:

“At first, the computer was magic. A portal. Talking to girls on online forums about music and books, and famous people felt like being struck by lightning. It was all I had. The video starts this story.”

“Kid A” is obviously a familiar title, for it is also the title of Radiohead’s experimental classic, released in 2000. Mercy Land’s “Kid A” is obviously not a cover, but it is a memento to Radiohead and the album in question. When Jinn first heard Kid A, her world began to change, and it started to shape her into the artist she is today. The song might not sound like Radiohead, but the mould of Kid A, the album, provided the inspiration for Mercy Land’s musical journey. It’s as if early 2000s bedroom pop dropped right onto a modern dancefloor. It’s an alternative dance jam that marries together different eras and influences, while sounding very much current.

Stylistically, Mercy Land likes to keep things light. They combine dream pop, darkwave, dance, and alternative rock, bringing it together with grace and coherence. Ultimately though, it’s about dancing your ass off, a speciality of Jinn and Gale. All you can think after hearing “Kid A” is thank god for Radiohead!
