J-Card Press announces Laughing Hyenas, the fifth release in its ongoing series of short-form music biographies. Laughing Hyenas is the chronicle of post-punk’s most uncompromising band, a Motor City product following in the footsteps of the Stooges, MC5, and Alice Cooper.

The Laughing Hyenas left a legacy of hell-bent self-destruction in the name of making an unholy racket; a sound both original and traditional, fueled by a love of punk rock, blues and the endless highway. The Hyenas shared stages with indie rock royalty and crisscrossed the nation to deliver the gospel of the New Sounds.

Led by charismatic vocalist John Brannon, the Hyenas’ Road to bigger things was blocked by drug habits and the incumbent personality problems that trail addiction. Based on new interviews and fresh source material, Laughing Hyenas intimately chronicles the history of one of the last outlaw rock n’ roll bands of our era.

Brannon says:

“(Guitarist) Larissa (Strickland) and I had nothing else beyond rock n’ roll. We were so driven to do this…With the Hyenas, I’m in full force. This is what I’m doing. This is a make-or-break situation.”

Laughing Hyenas was written by Steve Miller, who was a member of the early Touch and Go bands the Fix and Blight and toured as the guitarist in Strange Fruit. He is the author of seven books, lives in Dallas and travels the world.

J-Card Press is a new boutique imprint with one focus: to produce short biographies of the best alternative, indie rock, hip-hop, and riot grrrl groups of the past 20 to 30 years. J-Card’s releases include books on Brainiac, De La Soul, AFI, and Fountains of Wayne.
Every band has a story. J-Card tells a few each year.
