Graham Brown Band Premieres Music Video for Brave Single “Courage Comes”

Like all great artists, Graham Brown isn’t afraid of taking risks and musical detours. He likes to keep things fresh and change his approach from album to album. With their new album, Outside Within, Brown and his band are back with a more traditional rock n’ roll approach. You can hear it in the recently released first single “Courage Comes.” Today, the group debuts the accompanying music video, a video clip about as no-nonsense as the song for which it is for. A traditional late ’70s sounding rocker in the tradition of Tom Petty, the message is clear: stay strong even if adversity is staring you down. Recorded live in the studio, the song features one of Brown’s signature guitar solos. It’s a welcome sight to see Brown back with an electric guitar in his hand.

With a few words on the song, Brown states:

“I wrote ‘Courage Comes’ the morning before going to the studio. I had put on a Terry Fox t-shirt and started thinking about the courage he displayed. That brought me back to a conversation from the night before, and the song just fell into my lap. When I arrived at the studio, I showed the guys what I had, and we recorded two takes right away. I believe the second take was the keeper.”

Due for release this Friday, May 23rd, Outside Within is much more of a rock record than the acoustic detour Brown took on his last album, 2023’s Solo. He worked with his longtime electric band on this record, the tried, tested, and true team of guitarist/keyboardist Rob Blackburn, bassist John Werner, and drummer Mark Gruft. Featuring twelve new songs, the album oozes with energy, heart, and soul. Always seeking to improve, Graham works at becoming a better musician and player each day. Even after a career in which he has written over 400 songs, he still feels like there is so much more to learn.

Throughout Outside Within, Brown’s songwriting comes across as deliberate and well thought out. Going into the studio, he had many of the songs already thought out. But he hadn’t tapped into a theme yet until he more closely considered the lyrics he had composed. Many of them deal with the notion of being true to yourself. It’s an appropriate theme for Brown at this point in his career since being true to himself is what has gotten him to this point. Even at album 14, Graham Brown is still finding ways of challenging himself and rising to the occasion.
