George Crotty Trio Confirms June Release of Album ‘Heart Music’

The George Crotty Trio (GC3) is proud to announce the release of their new album Heart Music, available worldwide on Friday, June 6, 2025. With roots in Brooklyn and deep ties to global musical traditions, GC3 continues to push genre boundaries and redefine the cello’s role in jazz with this stunning new collection.

Led by Canadian cellist and composer George Crotty, Heart Music is a transatlantic travelogue — a reflection of time spent touring and collaborating in Copenhagen, Delft, Berlin, Toronto, and Brooklyn. Drawing inspiration from European jazz, Hindustani raga, and contemporary chamber music, the album features lyrical melodies, sparse yet immersive arrangements, and free-flowing improvisation from a genre-blending rhythm section.

Crotty is joined by bassist John Murchison, co-founder of Brooklyn Maqam (an Arabic music collective in NYC), and Jeremy Smith, a versatile percussionist currently developing new performance tools for cajon. The trio’s unique synergy transcends the typical trio hierarchy, weaving a dynamic and spontaneous musical conversation that is cinematic in scope and emotionally resonant.

Heart Music is the trio’s fourth release, following Four String Nomad (2019), Chronotope (2022), and Nishabourak (2025), the latter a jazz-forward collaboration with Persian setar master Hamid Motebassem.

The album cover features Composition (1932) by Irish modernist Mainie Jellett, a reflection of Crotty’s Irish heritage and his ongoing engagement with Irish art and session culture.
