Dubh Lee wrote the song after a bad date, while riding home in a taxi through Dublin. She thought about past choices and heartbreak. Lyrics like “Throw me a bone please” and “Til I can curl up at your feet” show how deeply the narrator wants love, even if it means giving up a piece of her pride.

The song draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye’s “Heard It Through the Grapevine.” Lee took that inspiration and mixed it with her folk stylings and created something mellow, infectious and unique. “My Poor Boy” is the first single from her new EP, which is slotted to come out later this year.
