Copper Flats Premiere Their Appreciative Single “Household Name”
Recently formed country rock band Copper Flats premiere their appreciative new song “Household Name” via Rock Ridge Music.
Although widespread appreciation for family values is not what it used to be, Copper Flats has been faithful to this in their songwriting. Today, the country band premieres its brand new single, “Household Name.”
The recently formed trio want to remind you of the importance of those close to you and that such relationships should not be taken for granted. The song directly addressed the humble beginnings of each band member growing up in Arkansas. Growing up in such a traditional environment exposed the band members to a lot of the little things in life that matter most. Money and notoriety are fine, but they are never the most important. Family is everything, and it’s the hard work of mothers and fathers that keeps society moving forward.
Elaborating on its subject matter, lead singer Brandon Kelly states:
“This song hits home for so many middle-class people growing up the way I did. It’s about parents who just got up and went to work and sacrificed a lot of things so their kids didn’t have to ‘want’ for anything. Growing up, we were poor, but I didn’t know it because of my parents’ sacrificial love for us! It’s a tribute to the great examples laid before us, and it gives us a beacon to follow in leading our own families and creating our own legacy with our families.”
On what makes the song special, guitarist Drew Smith says:
“This is one of my favourite songs we’ve written so far. The lyrics are not only a reminder of how we were raised, but I feel like they also set a standard for us as parents. It’s so easy to clock out when I get home and get distracted with ‘things,’ when the only thing that matters is loving my family and leading them well. This song is a simple reminder for me to do the best I can so one day, when my kids think of their childhood, they can say their mom and I worked hard and raised them well.”
Diving deeper into their motivation, guitarist Jeremy Castaldo adds:
“Needless to say, sitting down to write this one was special. We wanted a song that honoured family and legacy, and gave a little insight into why we do this music thing. A lot of artists these days just chase the applause, the likes, the numbers, that blue check mark on social media. We make music we want to make, and we do it hoping it makes an impact on people’s everyday lives. We do it hoping it will lift their spirits, take them back to a simpler time, or give them an escape from everyday life. And we can’t do what we do if our home life isn’t behind us 100 percent.
“We wanted to tell the story of how our parents worked hard, often in the shadows without any applause or recognition, but made an impact in not only our homes, but others’ as well. They weren’t famous, but in our homes, in our neighbourhoods, in our circles, they were heroes. They were a ‘household name.’”
Debuting earlier this year, Copper Flats formed as recently as last September. Rather than waste time trying to formulate a specific sound or musical game plan, the trio got right down to work. They travelled to Nashville and, after quickly writing one song, momentum began to build from there. This led to a six-month stay in Nashville, where they carefully wrote and recorded a year’s worth of original songs. The songs are full and wholesome, inspired by life’s simple pleasures: time with family, the outdoors, and everyday life. Modern sounding while staying true to the innovators of the past, Copper Flats find themselves on a very positive trajectory.
