Vocalist, educator, and performer Brandon Markell Holmes releases “FTW,” the first single from his upcoming long player, Try. Co-written with Silvan Strauss and co-produced by Robert PM, the founder of toucan sounds, “FTW” is simultaneously moody and deliciously positive.

Talking about “FTW,” Holmes says, “Life comes in seasons—some good, some challenging—but what remains constant is our essence of gratitude, positivity, and appreciation for the people and moments that make those difficult days not just bearable, but meaningful.

Originally from Chicago and now based in Brooklyn, Holmes’ sound reflects his background in the theatre scene and Chicago house music. He’s collaborated with musclecars, JKriv, and Byron The Aquarius, along with providing vocals on Gorillaz’s Grammy-nominated album, Humanz.

Holmes’ visual EP, Inertia, merged music, art, and history into a compelling exploration of the black experience.

Outside of music, Holmes is a passionate educator, with a Master of Science Degree in Education that he just completed while teaching Humanities (ELA/History) to 7th-12th graders.

“FTW” rolls out on shimmering tones, flowing into a dreamy, gliding melody blending house, R&B, and pop elements into a warm, upbeat tune. Holmes’ velvety vocals imbue the lyrics with optimistic flavors. There’s a luscious, buoyant surface to the harmonics that offers listeners the feel-good sensation of anticipation despite the tempests of life.

Energetic yet relaxed and infectious, listening to “FTW” puts a smile in your heart, mirroring the feeling of the song.
