Beau Jennings is very pleased to announce that the Doves EP will be released on June 6th. The title track, featuring a duet with Samantha Crain, is streaming everywhere now.

From the Americana/indie rock band Cheyenne to his ever-evolving solo career and penchant for home recording, Beau Jennings explores the lives of others, both real and imagined, through his art. His songs shimmer in the space between narrative and allegory; a kaleidoscope of memories set to music, they feel oddly familiar and eminently relatable. His easy eloquence has led to collaborations with the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Richard Swift, and filmmaker Bradley Beesley (Fearless Freaks, Okie Noodling).

With the Doves EP, Jennings takes us to the wellspring of his creative process.

Jennings states:

“All my songs start on acoustic guitar. There’s an immediacy that you sometimes lose when you bring it to full band production. We (Beau Jennings & The Tigers) just released a full-length band record last year, and I tend to cycle back and forth between the two modes. On band records, you might have to wait three years between when you write it and when people finally hear it… in this case, it was more like three months.”

Written in stolen moments laced throughout his daily life, Jennings was able to capture these nascent creations in his newly created home studio (drums and saxophone were recorded by Dustin Ragland and Chris Wiser at their respective homes).

Jennings explains:

“My old friend (and Norman Dirtybirds teammate!) Samantha Crain sings with me on Doves and sings some background on ‘Second Deer.’ I’ve known Samantha for a long time. She’s a real gem, and it’s an honour that she lent her talents to these songs.”

Additionally, Tigers guitar player Chase Kerby and Ragland each mixed a few of the tracks.

While not crafted with a specific theme in mind, upon reflection, the subjects touched upon in Doves are fluid continuation of things Jennings often writes about: relationships, aging, trying to find the universal in small everyday details.

Jennings states:

“Sometimes I feel like I’m at a crossroads career-wise wise. I’ve been writing and recording songs for twenty-some years, and some of these songs remind me of my first recordings. At this point in my life, I’ve seen a few trends and genres come and go, I’ve seen a few careers come and go, I guess this record is me saying I’m still here and I’m going to be writing and recording and releasing music as long as I’m able. I’m as inspired to create as ever.”
