The Industry breaks their silence in 2025 with the release of their new song, “Patent’s Pending.” The track has a healthy blend of smooth vibes and high energy outbursts with the guitars taking center stage throughout. The postmodern art rock band, made up of University of South Carolina students and alumni, blends psychedelic soundscapes, classic rock, and indie with their own unique flair to create their own sound.

The track starts with a soft, clean electric guitar, slowly building rhythmically under textural effects. The vocals are warm and laid-back, matching the vibe of the song. It’s upbeat and simultaneously just as chill—the kind of song listeners can choose to jam or drift off to.

“Patent’s Pending” dives into how emotions come and go. Nothing lasts forever—the good or the bad—and the song reminds us to appreciate the connections we have while they’re here. “Feeling it for no clear reason, must be the change of the season.” One of the most ear-catching parts of the song comes after the line “And it’s gone,” when the whole song shifts. The band says that drop is the heart of the track, and they played around with different guitar sounds to make it pop. “To accentuate this difference, we recorded many takes of the main rhythm part (with and without distortion, with and without phaser, finger picking vs. using a pick) and faded them in and out to create textural differences in the guitar tone over time.”

The single showcases a new side to The Industry’s sound—one that’s thoughtful, textured, and still uniquely them.
