Speaking about the single Eberson said:
“The compositions and lyrics are inspired by the thoughts and emotions that come to me while sitting by the ocean — waves of old memories and hopes for the future washing over me. The dark and the light, the highs and lows of the waves, the cold and the warmth.”
While, on the subject of her songwriting, Eberson had this to say:
“I write songs as often as I can. Sometimes 7 a week, sometimes 2 a month. I feel like I’m constantly developing, from month to month. In recent years I’ve gone through a few phases. On my last album, «Free», I wrote songs based on bass figures and riffs.
This time the songs are written with my piano, with the idea that the production shouldn’t control the song. The song should be able to be sung and played with only the piano and be good enough. I write melodies that I think are beautiful and that sound good to my voice, so I just hope that others think the same. I still have hundreds of songs to write, so I just have to keep going.”
Alongside her solo work, Marte frequently collaborates with other renowned artists and is also a member of the jazz-rock band Eberson, where she plays alongside her father, legendary guitarist Jon Eberson and is known for her dynamic and expressive live performances.
“Start Over Again” is out today via Oslo Records. Look out for more new music from Marte Eberson coming soon. Pick up the single here.
