Lucy Dacus Brings the Feels to Boston with Katie Gavin [Photos]
Lucy Dacus and Katie Gavin delivered an emotional, visually stunning show at Boston’s MGM Music Hall on April 21st.
Katie Gavin, best known as the lead singer of MUNA, opened the evening at Boston’s MGM Music Hall on Monday, April 21st, with a captivating solo set that introduced fans to her evolving artistry. Performing selections from her debut solo album, What a Relief, Gavin traded MUNA’s synth-pop textures for a sound rooted in folk and country influences. Her set was rich with emotional nuance, featuring warped-sounding keyboards, twangy guitars, and vocals that evoked the raw spirit of a pre-Fleetwood Mac era Stevie Nicks. Tracks like “Inconsolable” and “As Good As It Gets” stood out for their lyrical weight and vulnerability. Gavin’s engaging stage presence and introspective storytelling created an intimate atmosphere that primed the crowd for what was to come.
Following Gavin’s poignant opener, Lucy Dacus took the stage with her signature blend of thoughtful lyricism and magnetic calm. Kicking off with “Hot & Heavy,” Dacus drew the audience in with a performance that was both understated and emotionally powerful. The setlist flowed between newer releases like “Ankles” and “Best Guess” and beloved fan favourites, including “Please Stay” and the cathartic closer “Night Shift.”
A standout moment came when Dacus performed “Please Stay” acoustically, seated on a royal blue couch adorned with gold trim—a visual choice that underscored the show’s museum-like aesthetic. The stage was framed by ornate gold arches and classical columns, with shifting backdrops that mirrored each song’s emotional tone, reflecting the “Forever Is A Feeling” tour’s commitment to turning music into a visual art experience.
Lucy Dacus wrapped the night with a two-song encore. “True Blue,” a heartfelt nod to her Boygenius roots, and “Night Shift,” which erupted into an emotional release for both performer and audience. Altogether, the evening was a testament to the strength of narrative-driven music and the quiet power of two artists unafraid to feel deeply. The “Forever Is A Feeling” tour continues through the year with stops in Canada and all around the U.S. You can find tour dates here.
