Though perhaps not the best option for the environment, I have never been a big user of public transport. I got my first car in 1993 and never rode the bus again. The one exception is for shows at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Parking is either very rare or very expensive, so I hop on the Metro and ride into town. While there, I do tend to people-watch from time to time, and you can always tell who the people are who will be attending the show that I will be shooting. On this night, there were a number of cowboy hats and leather boots riding along with me, all of us on the way to see Kane Brown.

Getting his start by posting videos to Facebook, Kane Brown is part of the new generation of singers who paved their road to musical success. While it is true that social media has all kinds of dark corners, when appropriately used, it can do a lot of good as well. Thanks to those Facebook videos of him singing, Kane Brown is now living his musical dream and entertaining thousands of people nightly.

In town for the final Canadian date of his “The High Road” tour, Kane Brown filled the Bell Centre full of fans looking for a good time. He also brought a couple of friends along for the ride with him. Opening the show was Dasha, making her first visit to Montreal. It was an unforgettable visit for one fan when Dasha took their phone to record a portion of the opening track of her set, “Ain’t No Friend of Mine.” Still relatively new to the scene, she released her second album, What Happens Now?, last year and definitely had several fans in the building on this night. We’ll have to keep our eye on her.

Up next was Scott McCreery, whose rise to fame came as the Season 10 winner of American Idol. This photographer was a little disappointed that he remained rather far from us on the main stage, rather than strolling over to the U-shaped extension. However, he was there to entertain the several thousand fans in attendance. The joy and excitement that I could hear coming from them more than drowned out the frustrated grumbles of a handful of photographers. He opened his set with “You Time,” the hit single from his Same Truck album of 2021. What followed was a selection of his big hits, with a nice medley of songs that inspired him to bring the set to a close. The fans loved every moment.

With the opening acts having properly warmed up the crowd, it was time for Kane Brown to hit the stage. The set began with a lightning storm light show before Kane Brown rose from the U-stage to a long and loud ovation from the crowd. The show kicked off with “I Am,” the first track of Kane Brown’s latest album, The High Road, which was released in January of this year. Two other singles from that album, “Start A Fire” and “I Can Feel It,” followed before some of his other songs from previous albums got peppered into the setlist.

The fans certainly got their money’s worth on this evening—three top Country talents, mixed with a dose of fancy lights, flash pots, and confetti. Everyone had a good time, and what more can anyone ask for? Kane Brown continues his tour into the month of May.
