Flipturn Bring the “Burnout Days Tour” to Indianapolis [Photos]

Indie rockers Flipturn returned to Indianapolis on Wednesday night, marking yet another exciting stop on their “Burnout Days Tour.” They’ve hit a new high in their career with their most recent album of the same name, which highlights both the challenges and the victories that accompany it. The band’s new album was always playing on the shuffle, so I was really thrilled to see it live, even though I didn’t know much about them before the show.

Founded in 2015, Flipturn is an American indie rock band originating from Fernandina Beach, Florida. The group was formed by three high school seniors: Madeline Jarman (bass), Tristan Duncan (guitar), and Dillon Basse (vocals). They added drummer Devon VonBalson and guitarist and synthesizer Mitch Fountain after graduating from the University of Florida.

The opener, explosive indie-rock band Arcy Drive, broke down the barriers between the stage and the audience as soon as they took the stage, setting the bar high for the rest of the evening. They interacted with fans, energized the audience, and controlled the stage, giving the impression that this was their headline performance. And they made it obvious that this wasn’t simply another opening band by moving about all the time, boosting each other’s enthusiasm, and obviously having a great time. They performed several fantastic songs, including fan favourites “Louie” and “The Itch,” as well as some more underrated tracks like “Thrift Store.”

Flipturn’s set choices, which included both new and old songs, made it clear to me that this tour isn’t only about showcasing their most recent songs and achievements; it’s also about taking a trip back to their origins and starting points. “Moon Rocks” and “Swim Between Trees,” two of my personal favourites from the Burnout Days album, each have distinctive components that I was thrilled to hear live.

The band last played at the Hi-Fi in Indianapolis, and based on the enthusiastic yells of the audience, a large number of people in attendance had also attended that performance. Undoubtedly, the crowd did not let us down. Fans put up funny and customized placards and groups of friends danced together from the front of the barricade to the back of the pit, while some raised their phones, attempting to text the band on their displays. It was evident that Flipturn has a great deal of love for their supporters.

I had high expectations going in, and they were certainly surpassed when I left. Flipturn’s success in the indie rock scene was demonstrated by this concert, which was also a wonderful opportunity to witness their songs and hard work come to life. However, their tour doesn’t end here! There are several chances to see them live, which you can discover here, as the tour is still halfway through. Additionally, you can see them at a number of festivals this summer, such as Outside Lands, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, to mention a few.
