Blue Sky On Mars Release Debut Self-Titled Album

New York alt rock band Blue Sky On Mars just entered 2025 by releasing their first full-length album. The self-titled record has eight songs that dance between raw emotion, gritty guitars, and catchy hooks—and it’s messy in all the right ways.
In their words, “We wanted to cover a wide range of our musical interests. So while the songs may feel disconnected at times, that was intentional – we wanted to give space for each of our musical voices to show up for a moment. The common thread is mourning: a loss of connection, a loss of love, a loss of life. This is the sound of four people making music together after years of thinking they never would.”
The album kicks off with “Radio Silence,” a driving, energetic opener about the lies we live with and the secrets we keep. “Can you keep a secret? Like really keep a secret. None of us are innocent But If you don′t tell a soul, nobody will ever know.” The song seems to be telling the listener about the illusions we buy into and that silence and secrets hold everything together behind the scenes.
Another stand out is “Protege of a Dead Man,” full of fast, bright guitar picking and a bittersweet story about trying to impress someone who’s already gone: “I wanted to be your protege. Too bad you faded away. Before I could impress you. With my mess of chords and words.”
“This is the sound of four people making music together after years of thinking they never would.”
The record closes with “Don’t Walk Away Like That,” an upbeat breakup track with a punchy chorus and a bit of desperation: “I don’t wanna be your friend / I wanna make amends.”
Blue Sky On Mars tastefully blends ‘90s alt rock vibes with hints of metal, grunge, and even desert Western tones. The band isn’t trying to be perfect—they’re just being real. And that’s what makes this album so relatable.
