Birthname’s new EP CUI/?CO has arrived—it features five-songs and feels like a mix between a diary and a dream. Born and raised in California, the artist Birthname mixes pop sounds, lo-fi beats, and experimental soundscapes to create something that’s uniquely compelling and easy to listen to.

The EP kicks off with “COLD SUSHI” featuring Serujio, a laid back track with a smooth vocal approach that has a distinct lo-fi influence. The second song stands out on the track list simply due to its name, “IHATESUNDAYSBECAUSEOFMONDAYS”. This song has a simple yet highly relatable message, the weekends are too short and Monday always looms.

The lead single “ULTIMO” slows things down with acoustic guitar sensibilities and Birthname on the vocals delivering the song’s message. It’s a song about love, fear, mistakes, and getting stuck in bad patterns. Lyrics like “No my dear / You’re the only thing that I would ever fear / Oh sweet love / I’m bigger than mistakes I’ve overdone” and “I can’t tell what’s wrong from right / ‘Cause I keep crawling back every night” showcase how honest and raw this project gets.

CUI/?CO feels like Birthname working through a lot—letting go of old fears and figuring out who they are. It’s about feeling stuck between two worlds, but still finding a way to move forward. And every song shows a different side of that journey.
